What are the differences between Commercial and Educational licenses?
Educational and Commercial licenses are functionally identical. Educational licenses are non-transferable, and restricted to personal use by students or faculty, while Commercial licenses can be shared across a team. You may purchase an Educational Upgrade at any time so long as you meet our academic eligibility requirements. Educational licenses may be upgraded to Commercial licenses if you are no longer actively enrolled in an academic program.
I purchased an Educational license and haven’t received it. When will I receive it?
All Educational licenses (including upgrades, labs, and school kits) require a member of our sales team to review and approve your documentation, which can take a few business hours. Before purchasing an Educational license, we encourage you to review our academic eligibility requirements to avoid delays in processing your order. Please ensure that the order name matches the student/teacher name as listed on your proof of academic eligibility.
Please note that all Educational License orders placed outside of business hours will be processed the next business day, and a member of our sales team will review the documentation provided in the order in which they are received.

I’m not a student but I’d love to try Rhino before purchasing a Commercial license. Can you make an exception?
We offer a one-time 90-day Evaluation completely free of charge. The eval is the full version of Rhino. Just join and log in to the support community. No credit card is needed. Saving and plugins stop working after 90 days.
How many Educational Licenses can I purchase?
Educational Licenses are limited to one (1) per student/teacher. They are non-transferable and must be sent and used by the person who presents their proof of academic eligibility. Schools may purchase Educational Lab Licenses, which are 30+ User Licenses that are managed through The Zoo or Cloud Zoo. These Lab Licenses are eligible for upgrades.
I am based in Latin America. Can I purchase a license through McNeel Miami?
Yes! We service all of South, Central, and North America, as well as the Caribbean.
I purchased an Educational license and received a coupon for Rhino3D.Education. What’s that?
Developed by McNeel Miami, Rhino3D.Education is a Global Learning Hub for Rhino3D products, where you’ll find expert training in Rhino, Grasshopper, and specialized plugins. Coupons are available for the Student Suite only and can be used to take multi-language courses with hands-on methodologies. Rhino3D.Education is backed by a global community of design and technology experts.”
